Dimension tables, mounting type diagrams and application-based selection notes for the standard cylinder family. CAD STEP / DXF files are shared by engineering on a per-project basis.

Mounting types

Cylinder mounting types

The 6 most common mounting types are below. Visit the detail page for the full catalogue of the world's 52 mounting types and the ISO + NFPA + Parker code mapping.

CL

Clevis (forked mounting)

Pin connection with a single rod; rotational freedom. The most common type for tippers, trailer opening and mobile platforms.

TR

Trunnion (side-axis)

Twin trunnion pins from the side of the body; heavy axial load plus rotation. Excavator boom, concrete pump.

FL

Flange (flanged)

Bolted connection via front or rear flange; fixed body, no axis shift. Press, fixed industrial.

FT

Foot (foot-mounted)

Foot profile under the body, bolted from below; low profile, fixed cylinders.

RE

Rod End (rod-end joint)

Rotational joint added to the rod end: rod eye or rod clevis. Rotational freedom on both sides.

CR

Cross-tube (transverse tube)

A pin tube fitted transversely to the rod or body end; common in agriculture and light construction machinery.

Knowledge notes

Hydraulic cylinder selection and usage notes

Cylinder selection: bore, stroke, pressure calculation

Starting from the required force, speed and stroke in the application, selecting bore diameter + nominal pressure + mounting type.

Seal selection: NBR · Viton · PU · ceramic

Seal system based on operating temperature, fluid type (mineral oil, bio-oil, water-glycol), pressure and number of cycles.

Buckling length calculation (Euler)

Rod buckling risk at full stroke: verifying rod diameter and body-bearing distance with the Euler formula.

Telescopic cylinder: stage stopping

Internal stopping (built-in + buffer) and external stop ring selection; hydraulic shock management in long-stroke applications.

Test procedure: 1.5× nominal pressure

Individual pressure test of each cylinder before shipment; test duration, sealing acceptance criterion, certificate output.

Detailed knowledge notes are shared as PDFs by engineering. Send an inquiry for a specific topic.

Seal selection

Sealing material: pressure, temperature, application matrix

Seal kit selection depends on operating pressure, temperature range and fluid type. HPS provides an application-based selection recommendation.

NBR (Nitrile)

Pressure≤ 250 bar
Temperature≤ 90°C

General hydraulics, mineral oil · inexpensive, broad compatibility

HNBR

Pressure≤ 300 bar
Temperature≤ 120°C

Enhanced NBR: bio-oil + high temperature

Polyurethane (PU)

Pressure≥ 400 bar
Temperature≤ 100°C

Heavy-duty, abrasion resistance, high cycle life

FKM (Viton)

PressureHigh
Temperature≤ 200°C

High temperature, chemical resistance, abrasive fluid

PTFE

PressureAny level
Temperature−50 / +250°C

Extreme temperature, chemical inertness, niche application

Ceramic

Pressure700+ bar
TemperatureHigh

Very high pressure (press, hydraulic impact)
